Former Arsenal and Mexican striker Carlos Vela has lost his £3.3m Malibu home to the devastating wildfires tearing through Los Angeles.
Vela’s wife, Saioa Canibano, announced on Instagram that their $4 million (£3.3 million), 5,121-square-foot home was destroyed by the flames.
“Our beautiful Malibu home burned down yesterday… We are still in shock with everything that’s happening,” she wrote. “It’s very sad and scary to see everything burning. To all the messages of concern, we are safe. Sending much love to all those affected and hoping they manage to put out the fire soon.”
The luxurious home, which Vela had showcased in a recent Christmas post, featured five bedrooms, more than five bathrooms, a chef’s kitchen with a breakfast bar, a cinema room, a wine cellar, a spa, and a swimming pool.
The wildfires, which began on January 7, have killed at least ten people, destroyed thousands of homes, and displaced over 130,000 residents.
