The father of the alleged shooter in the Georgia high school massacre, Colin Gray, has been arrested following revelations that he gifted his son, Colt Gray, the AR-15 used in the tragic incident as a Christmas present. Colt is accused of fatally shooting four people—two students and two teachers—at Apalachee High School on Wednesday.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) has charged Colin Gray with four counts of involuntary manslaughter, two counts of second-degree murder, and eight counts of cruelty to children.

According to reports, Colin admitted to purchasing the AR-15-style rifle for his son in December 2023, just months after Colt, then 13 years old, had been investigated by the FBI for allegedly making threats about a school shooting on Discord. The threats included images of guns but lacked specifics on a potential attack.

The FBI referred the case to the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office, and deputies visited the Gray family’s home. Colt denied making the threats, and Colin assured officers that his son did not have unsupervised access to their firearms. With no probable cause for an arrest, the case was closed.

However, seven months after the investigation, Colin gave Colt the AR-15, which was allegedly used in the deadliest school shooting in Georgia’s history.
