Jesse Hamric, 18, tragically dove into Smith Mountain Lake near Roanoke, Virginia, early Thursday morning, where friends quickly realized something was amiss.

Upon entering the water to rescue Hamric, his friends also experienced electric shocks, but managed to retrieve him despite their injuries, reported WDBJ. One friend initiated CPR while another called for emergency assistance.

Rescue teams arrived around 4 a.m. and transported Hamric to a hospital, where he later succumbed to the incident.

His two friends sustained minor injuries.

Fire crews investigating the scene detected electrical currents in the water, attributed to stray voltage originating from a nearby dock at a private residence.

Authorities confirmed no foul play in the tragic accident. Hamric had been visiting with his family and friends when the incident occurred.

He had recently graduated from high school in May, where he had been an accomplished athlete in both football and baseball.

Alex Schwab, a close friend, fondly remembered Hamric, saying, “Since the first time I met him, he was truly one of a kind. You’d always see him with a smile on his face.” “Even now, I can’t believe.
